چکیده

There would seem to be many students who really want to learn, who have a huge appetite to learn, but who constantly struggle with their work. They just have not been prepared to be independent learners who can think and solve problems. A recent but promising area of applying IHS (Intelligent Hybrid Systems) is focused on intelligent tutoring systems. These intelligent tutoring systems, based on Intelligent Hybrid Systems, are becoming a highly effective approach to developing computer teaching systems. They model instructional and teaching strategies, enhancing educational programs, enabling them to decide on “what” to teach students, “when” to teach it and “how” to present it. A “stand alone” intelligent (IHS based) tutoring component is added to the usual learning environment, to support the work done by lecturers in teaching their students (Negoita and Pritchard, 2003a,2003b).

Affective Behavior in Intelligent Tutoring Systems for Virtual Laboratories

One of the most important highlights of personal tutoring is that of recognizing the student’s affective state and reacting accordingly by expressing the pedagogical movements in an affectively suitable way. In this paper, we propose a model for an affective tutor. The intelligent tutor integrates an affective student model based on the OCC cognitive model of emotion, with a cognitive student m...

An Affective Behavior Model for Intelligent Tutors

We describe an affective behavior model (ABM) for intelligent tutoring systems. The model is a Dynamic Decision Network that selects tutorial actions based on both the current affective and pedagogical state of a student, as well as on the assessment of the expected effect of each available action on the student. We integrated the ABM with an educational game to learn number factorization, and ...

Adding Weights to Constraints in Intelligent Tutoring Systems: Does It Improve the Error Diagnosis?

The constraint-based modeling (CBM) approach for developing intelligent tutoring systems has shown useful in several domains. However, when applying this approach to an exploratory environment where students are allowed to explore a large solution space for problems to be solved, this approach encounters its limitation: It is not well suited to determine the solution variant the student intende...

Intelligent Virtual Environments for Training: An Agent-Based Approach

In this paper we propose an architecture for the development of Intelligent Virtual Environments for Training, which is based on a collection of cooperative software agents. The first level of the architecture is an extension of the classical Intelligent Tutoring System architecture that adds to the expert, student, tutoring and communication modules a new module which is called World Module. S...

Review of intelligent tutoring systems using bayesian approach

With advancement in computer science research on artificial intelligence and in cognitive psychology research on human learning and performance, the next generation of computerbased tutoring systems moved beyond the simple presentation of pages of text or graphics. These new intelligent tutoring systems (ITSs) called cognitive tutors; incorporated modeltracing technology which is a cognitive mo...
